Google comments missing SD Slot on Nexus Phones
Yet another interesting story is the statement from google, why they consequently do not use an SD Slot on their Nexus Phones.

They say, the main reason for it is, that users are confused about additional SD Slots when trying to find their data.

Well, that is true - on one side - because most users ARE quite unfamiliar with storage at all.

I often have the problem to describe, when "Robo Miner" runs out of memory (RAM) - because many users do not know what RAM is and try to increase the internal memory by an additional SD Card.

Also - from dev side - it is quite complicated to lay a savegame on the sd card and find that savegame again when putting the sd card in another device.

Sure, that is a point where Google should try to get better integration.

But completely ignoring the existence of an SD Slot is in my opinion wrong.

THE SD Slot is the only real physikal thing which could be exchanged easily to another device - which is great for sharing different informations like a savegame or other app data.

On the other hand - we know that - everyone is currently excited when using the cloud. google has a cloud, MS has a cloud everyone has a cloud, so the world is full of clouds and everyone wants you to use their cloud.

I remember some years ago we laughed about an image we've seen in a manual .. there was a picture of different devices connecting each other and the internet was illustrated as a cloud .. well it was very funny in those days :-)

What google does not tell is, that before android 2.3 SD Slots were pretty equal on every device, which was great for the dev but leads to some minor problems, so they have changed it to what we have now. Drawback is, it does not work - which is a general issue with open systems because noboday really cares for different architectures/manufactureres so what we get is a bit of spaghetti where there is a lock of similar interfaces.

Hopefully that issue will not brake the neck of android, because generelly it is a small issue and should be easily resolvable IF someone looks at it :-)
