Preview on Next Version! New Blocks!
As I announced in my last post, I am currently working on new blocks for Robo Miner.

These new blocks will be Granite (very strong) and lava (very explosive).

In this video you can see, how an explosion will lead to chain reactions in a mine - they can be lethal so it is crucial to plan your detonations or get away very fast, very far :-)

For this new blocks it was needed to completely rework the logic behind the falling blocks (it was sometimes buggy anyway) and the way, the explosion fragments gets managed.

So, this video shows Robo Miner on a Level 40 Mine at the bottom. What you see is the current maximum amount of lava and granite blocks appearing in the game (could change in the release).
The device is an Asus Transformer TF101 and it works nearly on the same performance on my Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Even, when I tweak the game to have a 100% fillrate of lava (which leads to blowing nearly the complete mine) it is still running .. not so bad :-) Unfortunately, I have no vid of such a tweak ;-) But it may happen, that I remove the fill-cap to allow 100% lava again (so every mud block is lava).

Let me know what you think of it!

i'm not a big fan of beeing able to drill stone. to get to diamond level i only need to tab down till i have the correct depth?
i would love to have something like an artifactscanner and a random number of artifacts to collect(per lvl) to get a random bonus or just an achivement in the artifacts book (:
would also like that you change the 5x5 extra view block to +2 or +3 view block.
beside this, i love your game, it's my favorite android game.
(lvl 40+; bat 50; storage 100; scanner 30(does this make and sense?); drill 100 ;para 10)

There are some new blocks in the next version - even if you can dig stone, you cannot dig granite - the deeper the mine, the more granite (instead of stone) - so the rock-drill will just speed up the start in the higher levels. Do you still don't like the stone drill (drill lvl 50 or so)? Digging stone will be very slow (depends on drill level) also

as to what mark said about the hard to obtain i think that not only should you have to have a high upgrade and a lot of money, but i also think you should only be able to get it if you have reached a mine at so many feet deep, like 5000 feet for example.

answered by reiti.net:

The Rock-Drill will be available at a high Drill Upgrade, maybe around lvl 50. So it will need you to dig many ores to obtain this drill - and even then, drilling rock will be very slow

As for the drilling rocks idea, I think that it should be hard to obtain because that's the one obstacle in this game, maybe some sort of attachment that requires a high level drill, and the rocks would be very hard to mine, ans it would take forever. Just my thoughts on that

answered by reiti.net:

Drilling rock will be very slow (and with a late lvl of the drill) - in the next update, there are more and more granite blocks - which are not drillable. The reason is simply that it is a little bit faster to start in the very deep mines

I got some ideas for the boni:
drill lvl 50: dig stone
radar lvl 50: see what is in [?] in a 10 block radius
parachute lvl 50: they automatically launch when you fall more than you would survive
inventory lvl 50: you always get 1 big dynamite when you have none and go to the ufo
battery lvl 50: (when activated) double power consumption so you are faster in drilling and walking

just some ideas i hope you like them :)

I like your ideas, I will consider them in my next brainstorming

i think you should add some more upgrades, i love the game but eventually i will get to a point where i have a lot of uprgades and still alot of money, so it would be nice to have something like a reward for people who have been dedicated to the game, like how about a drill that mines stone for a couple million and you have to be at a certain level, that way its like a prize for people who love the game and keep playing it for long enough to get to that point!

answered by reiti.net:

Interesting, that you mentioned it - the drill WILL be able to drill rocks in the next version but you will need a certain drill level for it (maybe 50, I still need to balance it out). I am still thinking of such an "bonus" for every other upgrade too.

Don't mean to spam, thanks for the quick reply though! I was just thinking about the possibility of aesthetic upgrades, like hats and stuff. I think it would be a nice way towaste my thousands of extra dollars, and maybe lost with each robot. What do you think?

answered by reiti.net:

it's no spam, that's what comments are for ;-) I like the idea of giving your robot a distinct look - problem is the more technically image-space in memory .. I want to keep it as low as possible, to support even older phones, so I had to have to try bigger ones on a broad range of devices. .. and make the graphics xD But yes, that's a feature which would be nice

Tried to watch this on my Kindle in America, not sure what the problem is but it wont let me. Sounds really amazing. I was wondering if you could publish an "official ore list? Ive been making my own but don't know just how many ores there are. If there is one where could I find it?

answered by reiti.net:

Did it say any error? I just uploaded it, so maybe it is not distributed to USA yet ..

Currently there is no official ore list - but that's a nice idea, I could put up such a list on the blod .. and spare out the crystals (the deepest ores) to not spoil something :-)

Wow looks great :) Doesnt it rather speed it up to dig down than slowing it? Granit doesnt sound nice when i want to get further but its a nice new block. :) I hope that you can drill stone with a high level of drill which would speed the early hundreds up.

I am not sure whether it affects the performance but how about the lava-block being animated a bit?
And my older question: How often can you find free updates in the [?] blocks? Is it always random or settled with the generation of the map?

answered by reiti.net:

Granite needs to blown first (gets crack) and than can get digged.
Stone will be digable later in the mines (drill lvl 50 or something like that) that will speed up later mines.
but deep down there is granite (not digable).
I am still working on getting some nice animation or glow on the lava blocks - currently logic is ready.

Finding upgrades in [?] is at a fixed low percentage - even than it can be a rubberduck :-)
