Samsung Galaxy S3 - First Impressions
Because I needed some High Res Device to test my games on I decided to get myself one of these all new Android 4.x Phones.

I was searching for the S2 or Nexus but finally because all of them cost nearly the same, I decided for the new S3 - it was available at Amazon, unfortunately not in black .. and I do not want a blue handy .. blue .. come on.

White is pretty cool, so I took the white one. I was prepared for a long shipping time because here on the island it needs normally 2 weeks or more until something arrives from amazon. Not this time, they shipped with UPS and the phone just arrived today, only 6 days after purchasing. Impressive!

So I was very excited about it and just got it out of the box and started it up. Before I was using my Galaxy Ace and my Asus TF101 but this one is completely different.

First I was afraid of the size of the phone, but I have to admit, that is is quite ok even when I do not like big phones. It is still a big phone, weight nearly the same as the much smaller Galaxy Ace but feels a little bit more nimble.

The screen is awesome. It just look like everything is painted on top, like the dummies you find in electronic stores it just looks brilliant.

See the sticker which comes on the phone after unboxing? The actual image on the screen, after turning it on, just looks like it is a sticker too, unbelievable.

So i played around a little bit and needed to fire up Robo Miner directly to see how it looks on the S3, so here it is, Robo Miner running on the Samsung Galaxy S3. Looks pretty good and as expected runs as smooth as possible.

And now I really have to say something. Normally, when you read reviews about the latest Samsung Devices everyone is complaining about the back-cover.. WHY?? You NEVER feel it flappy during usage, it is also pretty easy to get it on and off.

I've read from people which has broken it by opening the cover - HOW YOU DO THAT? Just start at the top put your finger nail in and slide down - nothing easier than that. Absolutely nothing to complain about the cover - really. Get some fine mechanics xD Are you Jeremy Clarkson trying to open everything with a hammer?

The overall quality of the phone is fine, it feels good, I like the sensor-hard-keys (like on the Galaxy Ace).

I do not like, that the backside camera does stand out - it does disturb the shape of the phone - but to be honest it does not matter really xD

I know, that they are trying hard to keep the screen free of finger tips .. I got still finger tips, right after the first touching - nothing extreme, but I cannot see any REAL difference to my Galaxy Ace.

The Ace does "feel" a little bit heavier, don't know why it is a strange feeling when switching between the 2 phones, must be because of the haptical difference.

There is not much more to say, the phone was working right out of the box without anything special to do - everyone can do it.

Next task is to cut out my sim-card because unfortunately the S3 needs a micro-sim. That's a point I really do not understand. The phone is big enough to hold a regular sim card so there is no real reason to make it need a micro sim - bad decision, samsung.

After the Nexus, the S3 does finally come with a micro-SD slot - that's fine, that was a big feature-fail of the nexus but I believe that it was for purpose to give people more reason to by the S3 instead of the nexus.

After all - the S3 have Hard-Keys and do not use the soft-keys of android. I am pretty sure, that is because they just do not maintain the softkeys on samsung touchwiz. Pretty sure, that's the own reason for it.

The other thing is TouchWiz itself .. it nearly was a reason to NOT by the S3. I am a fan of the original Android System with the benefit of getting updates as soon as they are deployed - with TouchWiz something is a little bit more complicated because you have to rely on them to throw out an update.

But well after all I like the S3 and looking forward to nice time with it :-)
